Taxi - VW 411

Body light ivory, chassis silver. Interior in beige. Signal yellow taxi sign with black imprint and negative relief Taxi lettering. Silver hubcap with VW logo. VW logo imprinted on the front and ornamental strips painted silver. Indicators imprinted traffic orange. Black ornamental strips on the side plus door handles painted silver. Tail lights imprinted red.

This taxi made the suitcases disappear under its bonnet at the front

While the VW 411 struck a dashing figure as a taxi limousine, the cab trade did not really have any desire to substitute their omnipresent Mercedes-Benz diesels with the rear-wheel drive vehicle from Wolfsburg. Although offering its passengers a decent amount of space, the four-door saloon with its distinctive indicators and tail lights possessed too little room under its front hood to stow the passengers baggage. For this reason, the 411 remained a rarity at Germanys taxi stations. Nonetheless, it certainly makes for an impressive addition to WIKINGs selection of historic taxi cabs.
