The national airline of Poland is one of the oldest airlines in Europe, having been founded in Warsaw back in 1928.

LOT became one of the most important carriers of the Warsaw Pact, but parted with the hitherto Soviet-dominated fleet policy in the late 1980s.

The airline began a transition to US-built aircraft in 1989 with Boeing 767s. Current flagships of the fleet are seven 787-9 Dreamliners.
